Airport Considerations

London area airports provide multiple choices to all travelers. Depending on your final destination and client preferences, the London business aviation airports listed below can accommodate your needs to the highest level.

Airport Details

Airport hours, slot and PPR requirements, as well as local restrictions, differ from one airport to another.

London City airport is the closest option to central London. However, it is important to note that operations to this airport require aircraft and pilot qualification. Prior permission and slots are also required.

London Biggin Hill and London Farnborough are both slot free, business aviation dedicated airports with extended opening hours.

The bigger London Luton and London Stansted airports service both commercial and general aviation flights. Slots are required at both airports and parking restrictions may apply in Luton. Operators should note that both Luton and Stansted have introduced night bans for the summer of 2018 due to noise restriction measures. Between June 1 and September 30, 2018, Luton and Stansted remain closed for business and general aviation flights during the night and will be available as follows:

  • EGGW/Luton – 0600-2159 UTC (0700-2259 LCL)
  • EGSS/Stansted (Departures) – 0450-2215 UTC (0550-2315 LCL)
  • EGSS/Stansted (Arrivals) – 0515-2220 UTC (0615-2320 LCL)

Oxford and Cambridge are slot free airports. It is important to note that prior permission is required for all operations. Some overtime may be granted to the published airport opening hours upon prior request. Customs arrangements can be provided upon prior notice.

Hotel Accommodations

London and surrounding areas provide a large selection of quality accommodation. It is good to remember that the summer months are a busy period in Europe which may affect hotel availability. It is recommended that reservations are made as early as possible in order to guarantee the best hotel selection.

The majority of London area airports are about 1-hour distance from the London city center. Major rental car chains are present at all airports and car arrangements can be made at your convenience. The driver’s passport, driving license and credit card details are required for a car booking. Please note the left-hand traffic in all United Kingdom. Should you prefer a regular taxi or a car with a driver, WFS Global Trip Support can make arrangements accordingly with quality transportation providers.

UK Air Passenger Duty

UK Air Passenger Duty (APD) is an excise duty charged to all aircraft of more than 5.7 tons carrying passengers on departure from the United Kingdom airports. UK APD takes into account the aircraft type and seating capacity together with the distance to the destination country.

General aviation flights with aircraft over 20 tons and carrying fewer than 19 passengers are currently subject to the following rates.
Please note the long-distance flights will see a rate increase as of April 1, 2018:

Destination Band
(Country Distance)
UK APD Per Passenger Until March 31, 2018 UK APD Per Passenger from April 1, 2018
Band A (0 - 2000 miles)                                GBP 78 GBP 78
