Security Level: 3
Crime is the primary security concern for travelers to Russia. Organized crime and hate crimes are also concerns. Terrorism is an ongoing issue in Russia, particularly in the country's North Caucasus region. However, attacks take place in other locations across Russia as well, including in major cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg. Demonstrations take place on occasion. However, authorities often forcibly disperse unsanctioned protests. Corruption is widespread. Short-term travelers are most likely to be affected by corruption when dealing with police officers or other officials. The Russian government conducts espionage against foreigners regularly. Anti-Western sentiment is high at present due in large part to ongoing tensions between Russia and the West.

Foreign private and charter aircraft must use an escort crew service for aerodromes that are not approved for international flights and flights outside international airways along domestic routes. When it comes to hotel accommodations, close to the track in Adler and Sochi (40km to the north), there are scores of hotels with a variety of price points including good value higher-end hotels. The race takes place outside the main summer high season, making prices surprisingly lower. Be aware that demand is high on Grand Prix weekend. Resorts will have a daily resort fee and ‘F1 tax’ added to the room rate. Resort fees can range from $25.00 to more than $100.00 per day. If you book a resort, ask if you can decline use of amenities.
Black Sea beaches to botanical gardens and museums are located in Sochi. Take the opportunity to taste the culinary variety of creative dishes at local restaurants. The Lazarevskoye district of the city of Sochi offers budget-friendly accommodations. Be sure to review the total charge for the stay and cancel policy terms and conditions to find the perfect property for your trip. You may want to inquire if the staff speaks English for better service.
