Farnborough International Air Show

Trip Planning Guide: Farnborough International Airshow

Farnborough International Airshow will be held 16-22 July 2018 at Farnborough airfield, the United Kingdom. Farnborough Airshow is the most famous airshow in the United Kingdom. It is a one week event combining a Monday-Friday trade show for the aerospace industry and the Saturday-Sunday public weekend. The 2018 version is forecasted to be the most international airshow ever with a grown presence of Asian exhibitors.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the airshow during the public weekend 21-22 July to watch the flying display and discover the static display of aircrafts of all size. There will be a wide range of aircrafts from vintage to fast jets and from commercial to military both in the air and on the ground. The airshow public weekend opening hours are 0900-1800 LCL and the Flying Display will take place between 1230* and 1730* LCL (*timings may change due to operational reasons).

Hotel Accommodations

When it comes to hotel options near the Farnborough International Airshow, you have to travel only a short distance. Farnborough has a few hotels available for your stay. Recommended options are the towns of Guildford, Farnham, Camberley, Worplesdon, Fleet, Woking and Frimley with 3-4 star properties still available. Although further away, London offers the broadest assortment of hotel choices with nearby shopping and dining possibilities. We highly recommend you book now for the best value and venue experiences. Be sure to read the terms and conditions as a rule of thumb to choose the most flexible terms to avoid any surprises if your plans change. A one night penalty vs. full stay penalty can be costly.

Parking

Parking and arrival / departure slots are a major issue at Farnborough during this event period. Hangar space is limited and with the vollume of display aircraft (both static and flying) taking up the South Side of the airfield, the normal north side gets full very quickly. Departure routes and noise restrictions are also strictly enforced for Noise Abatement measures.

Airport Considerations

There are three primary airports to consider for this event: Luton (EGGW), a 60 minute drive to the race track, Coventry (EGBE) a 50 minute drive to the race track and Birmingham (EGBB) a 60 minute drive. Road links are average with added problems on the M3 from central London.

EGLF/Farnborough (recommended)

EGLF/Farnborough airport will continue to operate over the period of Farnborough International Airshow 2018. The airport is open Mon-Fri 0700-2200 LCL and 0800-2000 LCL on weekends. No overtime is available. Farnborough is a slot free airport, however, a prior permission is required.

Restrictions will take place during the event period in order to accommodate the Flying Display and associated flights, and the runway will be closed as follows:
  • Mon 16 July | 1300-1630 LCL (1200-1530 UTC)
  • Tue to Thu 17-19 July | 1345-1715 LCL (1245-1615 UTC)
  • Fri 20 July | 1300-1730 LCL (1200-1630 UTC)
  • Sat & Sun 21-22 July | 1200-1800 LCL (1100-1700 UTC)

Possible short delays may occur the week before and a couple of days after the event due to arrivals and departures of the Flying Display aircrafts. Operators are to note that the airport will be operating visually with ILS turned off from 07 July to 25 July inclusive.

It is highly recommended to send the flight schedule and book the parking as much in advance as possible.
